Where Do Children Come From?
It pleases me more than I could tell you to have acquired children by every means known, short of kidnaping. When someone asks me how many kids I have, I say "five," and sometimes add, "We have his, hers, ours, and somebody else's." When they look befuddled by this statement, I explain that both my wife and I have children by previous marriage, that we together conceived a child, and that we then adopted our last one. Legally, I am the father of each of these five siblings. If you looked at the birth certificate of any one of them, I am proud to say that you would find my name following the word "Father" on it, and no one else's.
